She asked, “What is the 19th country?”

I was puzzled, “What do you mean? What country?”

Kaycie again, “What was the 19th country?”

Me, “Kaycie, I can’t begin to guess how they counted or organized this list. What 19th country?”

Kaycie insists, “The 19th?”

Me again, “Kaycie, read to me how it was used in your book.” my frustration was high.

Kaycie reads, “Mummy’s from the 19th country were…”

I say, “Kaycie, you should ask Ooma and Poppy to get a pet pig so you can play with it.”

Kaycie thinks about it and says, “Pigs cost like $600. I’ve got the six, they have the hundred.”

I asked in a calm yet stressed voice, “Kaycie, I need you to go brush your teeth and brush your hair.”

Kaycie complained, “Why do I have to do everything myself?”

I try to respond, “You’re six now you can do anything.”

With her incredible timing, instantly Kaycie says, “No, I can’t lift an elephant.”

Defeated, I left the room.

Kaycie decides she wants to hide and scare Mommy when she comes out. She climbs and hides behind the couch where I am sitting. The room is very quite. A minute or two passes and she is still hasn’t said a word. All you can hear is the shower water from the bathroom.

Finally Kaycie speaks up and asks, “Is Mommy almost done?”

I say, “I think she is still getting ready.”

More silence from Kaycie.

A few minutes later she breaks the silence and Kaycie says, “I guess we coud talk.”

Kaycie asks, “Jessie, do you know about the sun?”

Jessie answers, “Yes.”

Kaycie continues, “Do you know how it is a big bright ball?”

Jessie answers, “Yes.”

Kaycie says, “NO! It’s a star!”

It was a simple reading assignment where she had to come up with five different words for the blank line in the story. I thought this was a great assignment because it would give her a chance to be creative. Something I know she is good at.

The picture above the blank line she had to fill in was of a cat who just popped a balloon while playing with it. I’m already thinking things like “Pop!”, “Uh oh!”, and “Blam!” but this is her work I wanted to see what she came up with first.

We sit there and she is thinking for about a minute or so and she then turns to me.

Kaycie says, “I don’t know about you, but I got nothing.”

Tonight Jen had one of those discussions with her.

Kaycie asks, “Can I stay in here tonight?”

Mom answered, “No, Kaycie, not tonight.”

Kaycie asks, “Why not, Mommy?”

Mom replies, “Well, you’re getting so big, that you might push Mommy out of the bed.”

With her incredibly wise reasoning, Kaycie then says, “Would it help if I pushed Daddy out of the bed?”

Tonight she went to the bathroom, sat down and farted.

I said, “Whoa!  You farted!”

She replied, “No, that was just air pushing out my pee.”

On the way out, Patrick stopped and said he needed to go get his gift card (Starbucks – YUM!).

Kaycie spun around, walked up to her dad and in her best loud and grouchy voice she said, “Gift card?!?!?  You call yourself a MAN with a gift card?!?!?”

I laughed all the way to the car.
